Buying a computer for my parents

hey, folks. hope isn't "on topic" community discussion. wasn't sure else throw it.

i've been thinking quite while. parents still using g4 quicksilver mac bought new 10 years ago. in time have replaced hard drive , superdrive , upgraded os handful of times. superdrive dead again, hard drive tired, , rather throw money @ aging system, them brand new computer.

of thoughts:

mac mini: can't remember kind of display connector on 19" tube monitor, aside that, have needed make work. familiar enough os , can transfer have migration assistant. biggest downside see integrated graphics on low end. not issue them. hate see spec refresh come month after bought them one.

new ipad: tempting, i'm not sure how take it. i've never used one, wouldn't able answer questions "how document old computer ipad." i'm sure can figure out, don't live them , don't want on phone troubleshooting these kinds of things when won't know every answer. kind of nice because keep old computer going , else use ipad when computer in use. still, i'd rid of g4 before dies. not sure how quick adopt new interface/os.

imac: big concern cost. that's not aren't worth it, have modest means here , i'm tentatively looking @ buying house summer. same ipad, in situation keep old 1 around second backup compupter 2011 model refurbished store, i'd still hate see spec refresh after when signs point happening soon.

windows laptop/desktop: ugh. i'm pretty proud have converted parents , sister mac users. wasn't easy , hate take step because it's more affordable. i'm tech savvy individual, haven't used windows regularly in decade. again, don't want doing tech support on phone or making regular house calls.

yeah, after typing out, think i'm leaning towards mini. wish crystal ball tell me if refresh right around corner, may not matter if i'm shopping refurbished ones.

their 19" tube monitor vga, , can buy adapter hook mini's mini displayport

or since lcds dirt cheap now, can them favor , them lcd display go along new mini. still need minidp-dvi adapter though, i'm not sure if it's included mini or not.
