Apple Researching Motion-Sensing Virtual 3D User Interface for iOS Devices

patently apple reports on newly-published patent application apple describing use of motion sensors create virtual three-dimensional interface ios devices. utilizing concepts similar found in number of existing augmented reality apps, general device interface appear virtual room navigated changing orientation of device.
apple describes use of gyroscope sensors allow "camera view" of virtual room rotate user rotates device. apple mentions sensors used detect gestures above surface of device's display in order allow natural 3d manipulation of user interface environment.

finally, apple's patent application discusses "snap to" feature allow users transition between various "walls" within virtual room.

in patent application filed in mid-2007, apple discussed similar notion of multi-dimensional desktops in mac os x, showing virtual room various groups of icons on different walls of room. apple followed patent application looking @ hyper-reality displays allow orientation- , motion-based manipulation of 3d objects.
