AT&T quality issue after 5.1 update


after updating both mine , wife's iphone 4s 5.01 5.1 few days ago, started having strange issue both of our phones.
when placing call, instead of hearing phone ringing, there sound can describe "garbled" "complete digital distortion". when other party answers, it's same.
can place several calls without happening, happen several times in row. have signal (3 or more bars) , it's not related signal level far can tell.

thought maybe a local at&t service issue , called customer support report this. looked @ line quality , such , asked if had updated 5.1 , told them had. said had been getting large amount of calls on same issue , commonality between callers had updated 5.1.
transferred 2nd , 3rd level support had me restore new see if fix , if not call apple support. at&t said had close enough calls on issue escalating apple known issue 5.1.

apple support 1st offered send new phones, told them that didn't make sense since happened after update , wait few days see if new fix made available. couldn't find official way downgrade 5.01, said search macroumors or google iclarify , try find way downgrade 5.01.

if notice on phone, call at&t , let them know, more people report it, sooner it'll addressed.
 

i haven't heard of else having issue, att's issue , didnt fess up, i'm sure resolved. if not make sure have latest att carrier update on phone.
