Samsung 830 (128gb) in a 2011 Mac Mini Notes

some quick notes thinking of grabbing samsung 830 (128gb) mac mini.

background: i'm "upgrading" owc electra ssd 120gb. upgrading, because installed firmware (320), getting random lockups windows 7 traced crappy pre-332 sandforce firmware. mini brain our restaurant's point of sale system, getting frustrating. wanted more reliable, if took performance hit it. after all, apple uses samsung , toshiba ssds. can't because of cost alone!

installation: many have noted, 830 thin drive. didn't use notebook space came when installed it. because of this, 2 of screws go drive didn't fit. i'm sure had removed drive , put in spacer, have been fine. antenna grate closes fine 2 side screws, however. note.

usage: superduper/windows restore magic, plus hour or later, , 830 , running. upon rebooting windows 7, downloaded magician ssd software samsung provides update firmware , give other pertinent information drive. automatically notified me newer firmware waiting, downloaded, , installed it. 1 reboot later, firmware checks out same can download on samsung downloads page. firmware update success. stark contrast firmware updating attempted , failed electras , owc windows/"mac" software.

worth noting windows experience score disk subsection went 7.1 7.5, it's worth. @ least windows thinks drive faster electra.

big fan , advocate of owc , ssd line. sandforce has many reliability issues such increase in speeds, me, isn't worth loss in productivity/reliability. i'll reserve judgement until few months time, can find out if mini more stable 830 electra, far, good.

wirelessly posted (mozilla/5.0 (iphone; cpu iphone os 5_0_1 mac os x) applewebkit/534.46 (khtml, gecko) version/5.1 mobile/9a406 safari/7534.48.3)

have 2 samsung 830s , 6 sandforce 2200 series drives (1 owc , 5 ocz). i've had no issues of these drives. owc mercury extreme pro 6g did not require firmware update, updated ocz drives 2.15 , fast , stable. prefer sandforce drive write durability on samsung 830s. see anandtech articles comparing heavy write performance. also, ahci enabled under bootcamp i'm getting perfect 7.9 scores on ocz vertex 3 max iops , on 500mb/s read/write in atto.
