question about Words w/Friends on iPod Touch

i starting playing words friends on ipod touch. friends unable submit word if turn wi-fi option off on ipod? or still go through , won't able receive game updates until turn wi-fi on again? wondering because i'd rather keep wi-fi off when i'm not using it...

 

it go through , play on game fine. later on when update current games, update you.
