iMac won't Power Up / Start Up

imac (late 2009 version)

trying restore ipod classic , sync froze imac (i think perhaps imac had many processes happening @ once there lots of applications open). did force quit , imac doesn't want start. have tried methods can find. holding down different keys etc (resetting smu / pram) , leaving imac off overnight still nothing. machine powers on sounds goes sleep 5 seconds later (you hear click cuts out) power still there can hear if listen back. no display / no chime / won't boot installation disk (which still inside imac).

make matters worse think part of problem imac not recognising keyboard. have tried both wireless , usb neither ones shift lock lights go on when imac tries power up. means smu / pram have not been reset @ in previous attempts.

suggestions?
imac, mac os x (10.7.2)
