Time Machine very slow


hi guys,

got new 1tb ext hdd writes pretty fast, when comes tm ups [it partitioned 700/300gb, 300gb tm], pretty slower.

tm ups slower writing say, 9gb ext drive?
 

are connected usb or firewire? went nas book live goflex mac (also 700/300 partitioned) using firewire , faster wireless. time machine not copying stuff, verifying backup goes along slower.
