hi all,
i've got 2011 dual core mac mini , i'm looking @ adding ssd , ideally keeping original 500gb drive storage drive.
problem i'm seeing conflicting reports of what's involved in adding 2nd drive (as opposed replacing current one). videos on youtube depict pop out logic board , slide drives right in place. ifixit's guide shows you've got pull entire thing apart , screw in 2nd drive chasse bracket.
imagine maybe chasse bracket option , isn't required , 2nd lower drive theoretically float without being screwed in anything. can offer illumination done it?
i'm kind of curious if pull off adding 2nd drive - what's best way go changing os drive ssd , wiping out standard hdd? should format , install fresh lion copy on ssd , add files? i'm new mac maybe there's way timemachine or something??
in advance if can help!
i follow ifixit instructions , remove cage place new hard drive in place. way know has been done correctly , less give problems in future.
added 128 gb mushkin cronos deluxe hard drive last weekend mac mini. ordered kit ifixit , watched video twice beforehand , followed on-line guide photos closely. bit leary of sliding drive place without mounting cage. it's not difficult slide logic board out , remove power supply hard drive cage out. took me 2 hours start finish , took time doing it. difficult part me small fan, hard drive , power connectors. took lot of time there make sure didn't break off.
used carbon copy cloner copy contents of original hard drive new ssd. went preferences , selected boot drive new ssd. using original hard drive time machine backup , file storage.
