i've updated mac software when alerted software update. installed latest update on saturday, , update got "registering updated components" , seemed fail (i.e. never finish). force quit update , restarted macbook pro see happened.
seemed ok - applications working normally, etc. when tried shut down, got light gray screen , computer not turn off without pressing power button. same thing if attempted restart.
read online , learned may better download updates apple , install manually rather using software updates prompt install. tried (after reinstalling lion), , updates installed , "finished" without force quit. thought problem solved, no - computer fails restart/shut down without intervention of pressing power button.
did discover, however, if log off main user account, can shut down/restart without problem.
so...what need in order shutdown/restart working again without logging out of account?
note - each software update attempt ended forcing quit, reinstalled lion in hopes of fixing things. fixed it, have update itunes , airport utility in order date, , seems causing restart/shutdown problem.
clues helpful!
