Issues with envelopes and labels in Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac


i upgraded microsoft office 2011 mac microsoft office 2004 mac, , having problems envelopes , labels.

whenever create envelope template or try create label (using label option menu), envelope , label automatically appear in notebook layout view. not big deal, except fact neither address nor return address appear , outline of label grid invisible. try changing view print layout view (which work in) , still there no address information or label grid. know why , can resolve this?

matter of fact, notebook layout view thorn in side; seems default view new documents, don't want be. i've tried changing normal.dotm document, after save , go create new document, it's notebook layout view. there way modify normal.dotm document new documents opened in print layout view?

envelopes challenge no matter what. found easyenvelopes (free utility) works, dashboard widget , simple use.

Macbook Pro broken screen and extensivelydamaged. How Can I Get it repaired?


macbook pro 17inch couple months old broken screen , extensively damaged. how can repaired?

in car accident in computer bag.
hooked display monitor @ home internal hardware seems working right still doesn't mean part of logic board messed up. body bent screen not functionable comes white , shows weird crack isn't in screen self show when turned on.

macbook pro repairable bought not year ago if can guys direct me best place can repaired took apple genius bar quoted me $1250 repair paid $4,000 think that's absurd screen , body replacement i'm out of nyc/li please direct me can macbook pro repaired .

Problem with iPhoto


i'm having problem accessing photo library through iphoto came out of nowhere. here's scenario...hopefully might able give guidance.

have older imac running os x leopard (10.5.8 think). out of blue, wife tells me can't open our photos anymore using iphoto. same version of iphoto came computer when bought in 2008. when go open program, tells changes made library using new version of iphoto, need upgrade new version of iphoto access our library.

upgrade leopard snow leopard can download iphoto '11 mac app store, worked fine. upgrade iphoto '11, worked fine well. when go open iphoto program, window opens says need upgrade library work new version of iphoto. when click continue, window started whole mess, 1 says need use new version of iphoto, opens , option have quit.

have backed on time capsule, restoring iphoto library hasn't worked. have idea i'm supposed do?
 

i'm bit confused here. lost access iphoto library , decided upgrade both os , version of iphoto , still can't access iphoto library, correct? if so, suggest grab originals using finder , store them someplace else re-import them favorite version of iphoto scratch. time don't allow iphoto make own copies of every photo import.

based on experience, think iphoto library lousy place keep originals of photos. can open iphoto library using "show package contents" , browse photos. can them copy them somewhere else using finder. suggest leave original photos there. start on importing them iphoto folder folder. time switch off "copy photos iphoto library when imported". setting use. have 10 gig iphoto library contains metadata (faces, places, events, etc) on 200 gig of photos keep on removable hard drive. problem approach can't go moving photos around "at will" once imported in iphoto.

MacJournal Syncing


i use macjournal variety of reasons need use on multiple machines. number of years, synced beautifully through .mac , mobileme. mariner software says implement icloud syncing, has given no dates. 1 of biggest reason haven't yet updated icloud, lion or mj v. 6.

on website, knowledgeable forums suggests journals synced dropbox, "it not supported." puts me in quite conundrum: upgrade v. 6 @ discounted path , sync dropbox (thus eliminating staying on lion , mobileme) or wait icloud support (hopefully) come , forced buy app @ full price on mas, since apple hasn't changed policy yet allowing access icloud syncing apps not purchased in mas.

question reading is: use other mobileme (and particularly interested in dropbox) sync macjournal files across several machines , if so, have had success or issues? curiously not addressed in mariner forums. in advance.

iTunes 10.6 grid view bug?


just downloaded itunes 10.6 , everytime enter grid view freezes , crashes. don't have problem @ in list view. i'm running snow leopard. else having problem?
 

i not having problem describe, on itunes 10.6 , lion. however, have seen several threads relating problem recently. try searching "itunes 10.6 crash" in forums.

recommended solution seems to fall itunes 10.5.

Help! Screen brightens simply by touching the back. Normal?


helo all,

first ipad , far love it, 1 exception. hold ipad left while typing right. every time apply little pressure either hand, screen brightens, noticeably. if you're looking @ of ipad in portrait view, area causes change in brightness apple logo left edge. if pressed anywhere in area, brightness occurs. same goes front/screen of ipad. anywhere else on unit, brightness not affected pressing. normality previous ipads?

also, notice, in portrait mode, 8 light bleeds (four on each side). normality?

btw brightness set 50%.

Recommend me a case?


i know there aren't many ipad 3 cases out, if possible, recommend me 1 previous ipads , hope making 1 3. pictures or links site nice too.

i'm looking simple, clean, , sleek. black, not have leather preferably, , no white stitching. don't want bulky. "clean" look, nothing sticking outside of it, etc. sleeve or smart cover type of case.

Confused about HD and SD movies in the UK iTunes store...


why movies, available rent in hd, not buy? bought johnny english reborn, hoping hd (the page said was, button buying movie wasn't)

did have rented version available in hd. i'm asking why in world not possible buy movies in hd, yet can rent them? it's confusing.
 

it's same way in itunes store no matter in world. i've bought 200 movies in store. movies once available in hd no longer , movies waiting hd sale, are. movies available in sd years ago in store rent.

movie studios play games doing this. when see movie available sale want, grab possible because may not sale next month or available in hd.

no serial number in bottom case replacement


hi, apple going replace bottom case of macbook pro. said new case not have serial number. guess if try sell laptop store later, may ask , reduce selling value of computer. besides that, have care lack of serial number @ bottom of case? why can't apple engrave serial number replacement case way new ipod?
 

duhh cause engraving done when ipods assembled.

why did need replace botton case anyway?

Convert .Avi to .Mkv on Mac ?


so, don't use devices other computer play videos, , because .mkv convenient (smaller file size lossless quality, different audio , subtitle tracks...) have decide convert .avi files .mkv make room urgently need on hds...

i've tried iskysoft converter has nice interface awfully slow , dumped immediately.

tried mkvtool has horrible ui , isn't convenient @ know format or options should choose, output file size get, time take convert etc...

i'd ask you: best avi mkv converted on mac ?

Stolen iPad (Find My iPhone)


so i've had ipad stolen today. live in dorm, know somewhere in building.

question is, how find iphone work? need downloaded on stolen device in order work? naturally built ios?

prep school shuts internet off @ midnight , turns on around 5 in morning, device offline. since cant sleep, figured i'd try info on plan of action take tomorrow.

if try tracking in morning iphone, locate device though never downloaded app on ipad?

diskutil doesn't see new HDD


hello,
old hdd crashed , had order new harddrive. installed hd , doesn't show in disk utility or installer.

first thought bought broken harddrive or there problem mini. booted xubuntu livecd on same mini. , there can see hdd fine; can format it, read write ... whatever want do.

tried writing zeros on in linux, formatting different partition tables. won't show in installer.

can me this?

i installed snow leopard via firewire on mini. still doesn't see hdd (stop sign when booting up; no hdd in diskutil when starting cd).

Help with carrier decision..


hey guys,
i'm looking @ going on states tertiary education in coming months , in process of budgeting, looking @ expect phone bills , deciding on 1 while i'm @ it.

plan on keeping current htc new zealand sim can continue receiving local stuff, , particularly interested in iphone because of cloud syncing , ease of use tracking , whatnot lineup of macs.

i'd see myself moderate user, although i'm fussed on data. can expect price/performance/cap-wise? can data tethered onto macbook or should plan 4g usb stick too? carriers recommend? phones carrier locked or can expect work outside of america if not stay on after studies?

PC 5770 shown as 5000 DVD player and Stream crash. How i can fix?


i bought 2 hand mac pro 1,1 came broken x1900xt.
install pc 5770 (power color 5770 vortex) pro doesn't have
grey boot screen. dvd player crash, stream games (fm2012) crash.
connect monitor (dell u2711) through display port doesn't shown anything.
mac report ati 5000 1024 mb. rather 5770.

can fix this?

there 2 possible ways fix issue:

1) simplest way: around net see if can find mac rom file card & flash it. allow mac see & report it's specs correctly.

2) advanced way: manually edit card's rom file insert correct identifiers mac can read.

3) more advanced way: write own mac drivers card & use them........hahahahaha :eek:

How to have all open windows stay put when disconnecting display?


hi all,

have apple cinema display , 13" mbp running latest version of lion. find annoying whenever use mbp in clamshell mode , need disconnect display, windows spread on over mbp , can't reach it. there way can have windows stay put or gather desktop visibly after disconnect display?

i've had same issue. unplug projector macbook air , can't access windows or menubar. i've had force machine power off , restart.

next time happens i'm going try hitting command-f2 try re-detect displays. never knew keyboard shortcut before.

Blank CD or DVD not fully recognized by OS.


sorry...i moved proper forum...

have 13" macbook pro , imac running updated os x 10.7.2. hadn't burned cd rom on either couple of months , both play cds os won't recognize blank media or write it. os via disk utility recognizes cd won't eject it. have reboot eject. doesn't show longer when blank inserted.

blank doesn't show on desktop, in finder, or itunes. can listen cd or copy itunes if try burn blank error in itunes: device in use other application. have verified settings , tried of "hail mary" fixes posted on apple support , forum no positive result.

here's output of log success:

imac has identical entries. can't find process using device.

both systems worked flawlessly last time used drives. no configuration changes on either system. both current updates. 2 spontaneous failures unlikely hardware related.

becoming disillusioned apple quality , reliability.

27" imac monitor versus 27" thunderbolt


is imac's 27" monitor same 27" stand alone thunderbolt monitor?

framing etc. different or "tube" different also?
 

i don't have exact details, believe quite similar. difference have noticed color of acd bit cooler (as in temperature) imac. assume extend atd well.

Anyway to mirror the iPhone on the iPad?


i wondering if there anyway mirror/control iphone ipad. there spot work can place iphone , cell reception. if put there , control ipad awesome. kind of vnc app or tweak in cydia? need vnc ios ios.

guess sorta tethering not really. don't want pay tethering service if don't have too.

need mirror device wirelessly.

Apple's Smartphone Market Share Surge Continues through December on iPhone 4S Strength

last week, research firm npd released data showing apple's ios had closed gap on android in new u.s. smartphone sales in october , november, narrowing android's 34 percentage-point lead 4 points in wake of iphone 4s debut.

nielsen takes look @ own data, showing similar momentum had carried on through end of 2011.
breaking data down monthly surveys of people had acquired new smartphone on previous 3 months, iphone 4s effect resulted in ios matching android in share of recent smartphone acquirers of december.

given three-month windows of time covered each monthly survey, december's data include @ least several weeks of time prior iphone 4s launch. data january show stronger performance apple, although of iphone 4s adopters may fall out of january sample due three-month window having closed, depending on when during month data collected.

i've tried both moving trash , holding down until "x" comes on apps spotify doesn't have "x"....i'm new mac's if tell me way uninstall app great!! thank in advance!

Backup eating up my SDD storage space


i have 2011 late edition macbook pro 17". got 256gb ssd hd installed in to. week ago, bought myself 3tb time capsule. working fine. time capsule makes ups every hour. when go hardware storage info after clicking on "about mac", notice there 200gb worth of precious ssd storage space being filled called "backup". going on here? backups going time capsule , delete large files free storage space on ssd. help!
 

for space issues, there few things can try:
  • begin restarting computer first step. resolves issues.
  • search finder see if space being consumed large file or several large files. adjust 50gb in illustration whatever size deem appropriate.

  • for time machine users on lion, time machine local snapshots may consuming space.
  • use omnidisksweeper, jdisk report or grandperspective see how space being used on drive. of these apps may show more detail others, try several.

Random restarts when watching video


my mac pro 2,1 has issues watching videos online. have 8g of ram , ati 5770 installed. these issues started month ago, seemed go away. after apple software update few weeks ago, issue returned , won't go away. installed smc fancontrol, seems buy few minutes of netflix runtime, not much. i've run apple hardware diag., , passed tests. out of frustration pulled old hd out of closet, original 10.4 install on it, , fine hour. however, can't watch netflix tiger, , wasn't able full screen video else online (youtube, amazon, cbs). think it's safe assume tiger stresses hardware less leopard or lion.

tried isolating dimm modules see if memory issue. seem work alike. pulling 1 of riser cards out keeps machine restarts, either 1 work, in either slot.

seems have symptoms point in both hardware , software directions. how can be?
 

create new user account , see if problem follows.

Screen zoom issues (2012 13" Macbook Pro)


hi folks,

i'm having small issue screen zoom feature in latest version of os x (10.7.3).

whenever use feature, entire screen color changes multiple colors (i tried taking screen grab show doesn't work). it's kind of pixels change bright color. i've noticed when view videos full screen, although not always. strange thing happens when not connected external monitor. connect monitor (via mini display port hdmi cable) works fine.

did take apple store today , after few tests, found affects login account. setup test account , worked ok. guy @ store booted clean version of os x 1 of servers , again, ok. know it's not hardware issue or system wide software issue, still don't know causing this.

apple said it's down particular user setting needs reset, 1 of many, suggested reinstall. isn't causing me problem @ moment have connected monitor i'm not going bother reinstall wondering if has experienced before? or may know cause of issue?

youtube destroys my mac!!


so have mbp 13" 2011 i5, 8gb ram 320gb hdd

can edit videos, make music edit raw photos , whole bunch of other stuff can run sky rim on medium settings acceptable play rate

on other hand when go youtube, or play on settings computer acts shark thats taken ton of coke , left in middle of desert...

hell, why youtube this? how around this?

need youtube business start , mac not go onto page without being spaz detrimental income life , convienience
 

first, make sure flash updated, , try chrome or someother browser if haven't already. if no avail, complain adobe having such useless programmers , making no effort contain monstrous memory leaks , unnecessary resource hogging flash throws upon you.

regarding skyrim having "acceptable play rate" on medium settings...what acceptable? amazed you've managed that, depending on fps deem acceptable. :eek:

New Problem with i7 MBA and external displays


i've had issue week. when external monitor attached in clamshell mode, air's own display keeps running, , it's cumbersome deal since windows keep hiding on air display.

have caused this?

if make external display primary one, close lid, restart computer should work supposed to.

think may software bug, i'm not sure. mine started doing month or 2 ago. people had issue said mountain lion beta fixed problem. wish apple release firmware update fix though...

i'm not sure if happening , don't know (as not uses external monitor air) or if less widespread.

other issue air (i5) no longer auto-detects displays. meaning when plug in external monitor, have go display settings , press "detect". when first got air automatic , detect instantly after plugging in. have tried 3 different cables (mdp->dvi, vga, hdmi) on 2 different monitors , same result.

have press volume control buttons full second each tick down or up, it's faster adjust volume going way on bottom left corner , adjusting mouse.

how can make volume control button more faster?

also, rather slow basic amd processor makes more energy efficient meaning uses less electricity other computers more powerful processors?

Weird ZAGGFolio Keyboard Problem (Solved)


i received zaggfolio , solo keyboard ipad2. other being totally underwhelmed @ quality of folio's outer shell have run baffling problem...

when type z y , when type y z... has else run this?

more weirdness... shift plus anzthing gives me weird characters. such shift plus apostrophy Ä

in world up... can not use questionmark either when trzing _

have feeling kezboard messed , iäm going have send back... bummer.

ps errors above result of me tzping regularlz on kezboard.

not $70 kezboard...
 

i delete thread somehow i'm sure might down line...


appears problem keyboard setting on ipad. hardware keyboard set us-german. setting regular seems have fixed problem , i'm happily typing on keyboard no issues.

if finds thread down line go settings , see hardware keyboard set to.

ATVS Power up every 15 minutes


i've had before atv 2, , after while got used it. now, both newbie , two, power every 15 mins. blue light pops on, goes off after 20 seconds.

curiious, watched modems activity light, , sure enough both polling connection...anyone else noticed this?
 

i've got same thing going on over here. wonder if there way modify power-up settings.

dvd ripping and burning help


i have posted before cant seem work yet. have 21" imac bought after long time pc user. here specs,

2.5 ghz intel core i5
4 gb 1333 mhz ddr3
running mac os x 10.7.3.

trying do, on dvds own.

trying strip copyright protection.
rip discs.
make sure playable on standard dvd player.
compress them fit on standard dvd, not duel layer.

have downloaded demos of mac ripper pro, rip , burn. haven't been able work out steps done. tried fairmount video_ts way large burn.

can burn copies of kids dvds, rough on them , gets expensive have replace them time.

if you're looking strip copy protection , compress video files, may want check out paid app called iskysoft dvd ripper. if don't fancy paying can off torrent sites bittorrent client. allows encode video files different formats, cut, edit , enhance them too. use in conjunction burn 2.51 allows me burn region free dvd's, comes in handy, have lot of region 1 dvd's lying about, can't play here in uk. if burn doesn't fit criteria may want check out app called toast, burn dvd's.

Question about Mac mini


hello everybody!

i'm planning buy first mac soon. sole reason buying logic. have quiet high end windows desktop, dont need other functions.

question following:
- current mac mini run logic enough?

im gonna put in 8gb ram, , im gonna offstream music external hd bypass slower built in hdd (not feeling chaning hd in macmini tbh).
know logic pretty high end program i've seen (non graphic) benchmarks (cant remember where) in imac, macmini , mpb perform quiet equally.
im guessing upgraded mini come in summer or later, dont have time wait on that.

other info/tips?
