i have 2010 imac 2.93 i7. did upgrade lion when first came out , have been underwhelmed since time. lots of beachballs, random weirdness audio, , occasion hung computer , then. had hoped subsequent patches fix things, didn't. mail app started crashing , safari hang long periods of time. tried of suggestions on permission repairs, etc. , nothing helped. got fed yesterday, backed on external hard drive, nuked internal drive , loaded clean. took many hours reload man, difference! not single beachball, no random pauses, no crashes , system seems snappier! ended freeing couple of hundred gig of disk space stuff no longer using. thought os x supposed handle upgrades better windows did, not in case. anyway, it's brand new system.
yes, complete nuke , reinstall of os solves myriad of problems. @ least more accurately reflects true problems os itself. (since other clutter gone).
